Twin Eagles Wilderness School eNewsletter - October 2026
Autumn greetings from all of us here at Twin Eagles! Fall is in full force on the land, with cottonwoods, aspens, red-osier dogwood, and the maples in town offering a rich display of color. Leaves are gathering underfoot, though the valley trees still hold much of their foliage, and the larches are beginning to turn gold. The welcome rains have returned to a thirsty land, bringing lobster mushrooms, chanterelles, boletes, and many more up through the forest floor. Squirrels are caching cones, deer are growing thicker coats and beginning their rut, and the elk rut is winding down. A few frosty mornings and snow on the high peaks remind us of the season ahead. Recently, while sleeping out on the land, I had the gift of being serenaded by two great horned owls calling back and forth. Lying there listening, I felt grateful to belong to this living world, with its rhythms carrying on all around us. What have you been noticing in the wild places near your home?
Here at Twin Eagles, we’re enjoying the final days of our autumn youth programs while preparing opportunities to gather through winter and spring. Jeannine’s Renewal and Reciprocity returns this January, and enrollment is open for our winter and spring youth programs, Mother-Daughter and Father-Son gatherings, Girls’ Rite of Passage, and Wilderness Skills Instructor Training. We also have early news to share for teens and families interested in our Boys’ Rite of Passage. Take a look below and see what calls to you and your family.
