Twin Eagles Wilderness School
eNewsletter - May 2026

Greetings from Twin Eagles Wilderness School! Here in North Idaho, late May is alive with the fullness of spring. We are grateful that the rains have returned, bringing thunder, lightning, and much-needed moisture back to the land. Songbirds are deep in their nesting season now, tending eggs and feeding young ones hidden among the branches. The cottonwoods are just beginning to go to seed, and their soft white fluff has just started to drift through the air. White-tailed deer will soon be giving birth, quietly welcoming the next generation of fawns into the green world. Take a moment and look around, and then look within. What is growing, nesting, and coming to life in you and your family these days?

We are in full swing with spring programs here at Twin Eagles. In recent weeks, we’ve completed our Girls Rite of Passage, Boys Rite of Passage, Mother-Daughter Program, and Father-Son Wilderness Program, while our 10-day Adult Wilderness Skills Instructor Training Program is currently unfolding on the land. Soon, hundreds of kids will be journeying through our deep nature connection summer camps, and we still have a number of youth summer camps open for enrollment. We also have space available in our August Father-Son Wilderness Program, and there is still time to join the upcoming Wilderness Vision Quest. Take a look at our offerings below, and we hope to see you with us soon!

Here is what we have in store for you in this month's eNewsletter:

At Twin Eagles, we believe that connecting deeply with nature is critical to whole child development. The experiences we offer bring kids back to a simpler, more connected way of life where their senses are honed to once again hear the call of the wild, revel in the feeling of mud squishing between their toes, delight in the beauty of wildflowers, and listen to the music in mountain streams. Kids develop authentic resiliency through real world challenges and traditional earth based skills as they experience the deep peace of the natural world.

Our highly trained instructors draw out kids' passions through nature based activities like:
  • Making fire by friction
  • Learning edible & medicinal plants
  • Exploring natural mysteries
  • Tracking wild animals
  • Building natural shelters
  • Discovering the language of the forest
  • Training as the native scouts of old did
  • Learning earth based crafts, stories, songs
  • and much, much more!

Help Support Our Summer Camps: Staff, Volunteers, Interns & Teen MITs

Environmental Education Jobs Summer camps are just around the corner, and we are still seeking good people to help carry the village this season. There are several ways to get involved, including paid summer camp staff roles, adult Volunteer Assistants, Parent Volunteer Assistants, Summer Internships, and our Teen Mentor-In-Training Program. Each of these roles helps support the living culture of Twin Eagles as kids build authentic relationship with nature, community, and themselves.

Paid Summer Camp Staff

We are seeking experienced deep nature connection mentors for paid summer camp roles, including Program Directors and Instructors. These roles are a good fit for adults who already have solid training and experience in nature-based mentoring, wilderness skills, outdoor leadership, youth mentoring, or related work. Twin Eagles has a very unique culture and approach, so we are looking for people who can step in with skill, humility, and genuine readiness to help carry the container.

Adult Volunteer Assistants

We are also seeking adult Volunteer Assistants for our summer camps. This role is open to adults who care about kids, love nature, and want to be part of a regenerative, service-oriented learning community. Volunteer Assistants support camp flow, games, skills, mentoring, safety, and the daily life of camp while learning alongside our staff team.

Parent Volunteer Assistants

Parents can also volunteer as Parent Volunteer Assistants at summer camp. This is a meaningful way to step more deeply into the Twin Eagles village, support your child’s learning from the inside, and experience the magic of camp firsthand. Parent Volunteer Assistants receive training and experience as deep nature connection mentors, while also receiving benefits such as tuition discounts and priority placement for their children.

Summer Internships

Our Summer Internship Program is a deeper immersion into the heart of Twin Eagles. Interns are often young adults who want hands-on experience in nature connection, mentoring, wilderness skills, community life, and personal growth. This is a strong fit for someone who wants more than just a summer activity and is ready to learn through service, challenge, and meaningful participation.

Teen Mentor-In-Training Program

For teens ages 13 and older

Our Teen Mentor-In-Training (MIT) Program, is for teens ages 13 and older who are ready to step into more responsibility and leadership. This is especially well suited for teens who have grown up with Twin Eagles and are ready to support younger campers while continuing their own growth. We may consider mature teens who are new to Twin Eagles, but the strongest fit is usually a teen who already understands and loves the culture of our programs.

Father Son Wilderness Programs 2026

For fathers and their 9 - 13 year old sons
Summer Session, August 21 - 25 - Now Open
Medicine Circle Eco-Retreat - Priest River, Idaho

Father Son Wilderness Program We just completed our spring Father-Son Wilderness Program less than a week ago, and it was a powerful success. The fathers and sons showed up with sincerity, courage, and openness, and over the course of the program something beautiful happened between them. We witnessed their relationships soften, strengthen, and deepen on the land. It reminded us once again how much fathers and sons need meaningful time together, away from the noise of daily life, held by nature, challenge, and a strong circle of support.

Imagine taking five days with your son, connecting deeply with nature through ancestral wilderness survival skills, all within a small circle of other fathers and sons with similar values. During this program, we'll make fire by friction, build and sleep in natural shelters, learn traditional hunting and gathering techniques, and track wild animals. Primitive wilderness survival isn't a "Man vs. Wild" scenario. It is an opportunity to build a deep relationship with the Earth. As you and your son do so, you'll find that your relationship deepens in powerful ways.
