Twin Eagles Wilderness School
eNewsletter - February 2016

Hello from all of us here at Twin Eagles Wilderness School! Although it is still officially winter, the first signs of spring are already here with this year's unseasonably warm weather. American Robins, Red Winged Blackbirds, and Varied Thrush's are all back here at Cedar Springs, as the snow melts. Barred Owls are calling, the first grasses and plants are just barely turning green, mud season is here, and we've heard reports from neighbors that grizzly bears are already out and about. Before we know it, spring will be here in full swing... but its not quite yet. Take some time during this quiet time of year to just be still in nature, and listen for the mysteries it whispers to your heart.

February has been quite full here at Twin Eagles. We started the month with our annual Wooden Bow Making Workshop, as a new batch of bows and bowyers were "born". Our Depth Mentoring Apprenticeship continues, as participants focus in on both the theory and practice of the art of mentoring. Our Youth Programs continue to bring great fun, wisdom from the Earth, and nature connection to area children and families. Just last week our dear friend and mentor Tony Ten Fingers came by and delivered a special evening presentation. Tony is an Oglala Lakota from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota, and was one of Jeannine and my first mentors over 16 years ago. This past weekend Barry Moses (from the Spokane Tribe of Indians) and I facilitated our annual Sacred Space weekend retreat, which is one of the most meaningful and satisfying events I've led in quite some time. A dozen folks came together to travel deep into the heart within and the heart of the land to discover healing, wisdom, community, vision, and oneness. A true blessing. I am grateful to be living the dream.

Feature Article: Herbal Tea Benefits

Herbal Tea Benefits

Herbal tea benefits the body, mind, heart, and spirit whether it's hot or cold, iced or as punch, mixed with cream, milk, sugar, honey, syrup or lemon. People have enjoyed herbal tea for tens of thousands of years as an elixir of heath. Today it is used as coffee substitute, decoction, infusion, minitale, sun tea, tisane, iced tea or just plain room temperature. It's simple, easy to make and the health benefits are incredible. So step into the herbal apothecary with me where herbs are hanging up drying, plants are simmering on the stove and there's a cup of herbal tea steeping for you right now.

You receive herbal tea benefits with every kind of herbal tea you drink. Herbal teas benefit the digestive system, appetite, cramps, coughs, the common cold, nausea, heartburn, headaches and hay fever. Some herbal teas calm the nerves, promote sleep, lower blood pressure, fight infection, bring down a fever, cure insomnia, cleanse internal organs, strengthen memory, purify the blood or boost your immune system. And there are many herbal teas packed with vitamins and minerals, some carrying more nutrition than food.

Kids develop authentic resiliency through real world challenges and traditional earth based skills as they experience the deep peace of the natural world.

Our highly trained instructors draw out kids' passions through nature based activities like:
  • Making fire by friction

Family Programs

Father-Son Wilderness Program

For fathers and their 7 - 12 year old sons
Friday May 27 - Monday May 20, 2016 (Memorial Day Weekend)
Medicine Circle Eco-Retreat - Priest River, Idaho

When was the last time you stripped away all the distractions, and just connected with your son(s) and what is most important in life in the simplest way possible?

When was the last time you slowed down, really slowed down, and just connected with nature, on nature's terms?

Father Son Wilderness Program Imagine taking four days with your son(s), and connecting deeply with nature and your boy(s) through ancestral wilderness survival skills, all within a small "tribe" of other fathers & sons that are like minded with similar values.

Since the dawn of time, fathers and sons have bonded deeply in and with the wilderness. Ancestral wilderness skills have an innate ability to deepen the Father-Son connection like nothing else. This May, we're running a very special Father-Son Wilderness Program at Twin Eagles. During this program, we'll make fire by friction, build and sleep in natural shelters, learn traditional hunting and gathering techniques, and track wild animals. Primitive wilderness survival isn't a "Man vs. Wild" scenario, it is an opportunity to build a deep relationship with the Earth. As you and your son do so, you'll find that your relationship with your son deepens in powerful ways.

We'll have facilitated, open heart Father-Son relationship deepening time, and of course opportunities to connect with the other fathers and sons present. Just as our earth based ancestors did, we'll utilize traditional earth based spiritual practices to help facilitate the connection, and have surprise elements too. We're looking for fathers and sons who are ready to open their bodies, minds, and hearts to a deeper connection, have epic fun, and take the time to connect with what matters most.

Interested, or know someone who might be? Learn more here.

Our very best to you and your family! As always, we encourage you to invest in what is most important in life - family, community, nature, and finding peace within. Live life to the fullest!
