Make Your Own Wooden Bow!!

There's just nothing that compares to the light in a person's eyes who has just finished making their very own wooden long bow. Pride, deep satisfaction of a job well done, and connection to our earth based roots bring about a certain aliveness that makes being a mentor so worthwhile.

Bow Making Workshop

In less than two weeks, I'll be personally leading this year's Wooden Bow Making Workshop. This is an amazing class, one of my personal favorites to lead. You'll spend the whole weekend careful crafting a highly functional and practical work of art out of a single piece of wood. The process of slowly and carefully working the wood develops a special quality of patience and focus that is more like a meditation, and a welcome reprieve from today's busy world.

Just imagine shooting bulls eyes with your very own handmade wooden long bow! Whether you are making this bow for hunting or target practice, you'll simply never have a relationship with a bow like you will with one you have made yourself.

Building and shooting wooden longbows has been practiced for thousands of years all over the world. Bows have been used in many ways, for survival (both food gathering and protection), sport, meditation, and even spiritual practice (Zen archery). This bow making workshop is a continuation of this ancient practice.

During this workshop, participants will learn the skills to build a longbow, how to choose the wood, the tools needed and their use, how to make bow strings, and how to finish the wood. Shooting the bow will also be covered. By Sunday, your bow will be ready to shoot. You will be taught the instinctive shooting method (the same method used by people who relied on the bow in their daily lives). You will leave with a bow and the understanding to be able to build another bow on your own.

I've been making wooden bows for close to twenty years, and learned the hard way from my mistakes. It took me over a full year to make my first wooden long bow, but I can guide you through the process in a single weekend. If this is something you've been waiting to do, I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity today. This is the only Bow Making Workshop I'll be leading this year.

The Wooden Bow Making Workshop is happening Friday March 3 - Sunday March 5, here at our main campus north of Sandpoint. We still have some open spots, but enrollment is limited. I like to keep the class size small to maintain a high quality mentoring experience with plenty of personal attention for each participant. The workshop is open to adults, as well as teens 15 years old and older who are personally excited and motivated to take on the bow making process.

You can learn more and register online here!

Remember, not only do you get to spend an exciting weekend with a passionate group of companions and mentors, you also get to leave with your very own hand made wooden bow!

As always, feel free to let us know if you have any questions. I hope to see you there!
