Feature Article Renewal - The Hidden Secret of Winter by Jeannine Tidwell This past November at Twin Eagles we held our fourth annual Autumn celebratory event, the Fall Harvest. One of the touchstone moments for everyone there was gathering around the teachings of the Medicine Wheel, a life way and world view for many earth based cultures all over the world. Although there are many different expressions of the Medicine Wheel in cultures the world over there are some universal teachings common to all of us. Let's take the times of day for example. The sun rises in the East at the beginning of each new day. This is true for everyone everywhere on earth. What can be reflected herein is that Spring can be correlated to the direction of the East because it represents new beginnings. At the Fall Harvest we acknowledged the cycles of life for a human being and the significance of the seasons in our life's journey.
Winter gives us a unique gift of looking inward for renewal. Just as the snows of winter settle in many northern climates to blanket the land we have the opportunity to pause, look within and see what has settled. There are many questions that can guide the inner journey. Patterns can often be a good place to start for triggering self awareness. I often ask: what are the patterns of personal growth, integrity, strength and passions that I am aware of for myself right now and what influences me? What do all of my patterns say about who I am?Winter is a time of renewal because what we find when we pause to look can be a catalyst for the resurgence that's to come. There's an opportunity for us to make the necessary personal changes needed and recognize and affirm our gifts so we can create what we want to see in ourselves and in the world when the Spring returns at that point of new beginnings. It's important to embrace what is. At the Fall Harvest we marked the cycle of the seasons by celebrating the Fall. That's what we were present in. We also found strength knowing that on the other side of Winter is Spring. That strength and the seed within it, hope, is there to be discovered for all of us. I wish for you strength, hope and renewal this winter and look forward to seeing you in the spring!
